The last time these two exceptional players faced each other was in the Olympic final, where Djokovic emerged victorious, fulfilling his dream of winning a gold medal. A few weeks earlier, in the Wimbledon final, the Spaniard had the upper hand. Unsurprisingly, Alcaraz and Djokovic are once again at the top of the US Open odds. The two extraordinary players have already faced each other seven times, with Djokovic leading 4-3. However, bookmakers see Djokovic as having a slight edge in the US Open.

US Open Favorites: How Are the Contenders Shaping Up?

Alcaraz and Djokovic are considered top favorites by many experts. However, Jannik Sinner, who won the only hard-court Grand Slam of the year so far, cannot be overlooked.

The Italian currently tops the world rankings and must therefore be counted among the US Open favorites. His strong form was already on display with a victory at the Cincinnati warm-up tournament. Still awaiting his first Grand Slam victory is Alexander Zverev. The German has reached two Grand Slam finals so far—2020 in New York and 2024 in Paris. However, the ultimate triumph has eluded him. Daniil Medvedev also has high hopes for a strong tournament. The Russian’s greatest success came when he won the US Open in 2021.

On the women’s side, Iga Świątek, currently the world number one, is eager to maintain her top spot. After winning the French Open 2024, she secured a bronze medal at the Olympics held at the same venue. However, at the Cincinnati Masters, she was defeated by Sabalenka in the semifinals. Will there be a rematch at Flushing Meadows? Coco Gauff, the 2023 US Open champion, is determined to defend her title. Last year, the American defeated Aryna Sabalenka in a three-set final.

In 2024, she has already reached the semifinals at both the Australian Open and the French Open. Will she achieve another major victory in New York?
